Welcome to the

Clay Sewell Ceramics website

April 20

We have moved from Aurora, IL, to a temporary residence in Oshkosh, WI. We will be closing on a home in May and hopefully begin work on a studio in the fall. Anything worth doing right takes time, they say.

All pottery will be unavailable for purchase until we establish the studio, kiln and fire our clay-work. Please bear with us. We very much appreciate your interest and patience. Updates will be posted on our progress (whenever I get around to it).

All of my work is one-of-a-kind ceramic ware ready to ship to you (without Tariffs!). The price of all items includes shipping anywhere in the continental US.

A little about Clay Sewell: I have lived in Aurora, Illinois most of my life with my wife Denise, where we raised three pretty neat children.

I received a B.A. in Craft Design with an emphasis in woodworking / ceramics from Iowa State University. After earning my teaching credentials, I soon found that it was difficult to both teach and work as an artist at the same time. My focus became my fantastic students. Eventually I earned masters degrees in Secondary Education and Ceramics from Northern Illinois University and have exhibited my work locally, regionally and nationally.

In 2015, I retired from teaching at the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, having taught 35 years of ceramics and photography. I am now concentrating on clay with a more sustained relationship with this wonderful material.

Today, my focus is on working primarily with porcelain to make functional work that is fired in wood & soda kilns. As you can see by my work, my interest is in the making of bottles, jugs and functional ware. These forms continually fascinate me.
